We are looking for a highly motivated, independent and resourceful biologist that enjoy challenge and developing new techniques and are able to learn quickly. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in biological sciences or biotechnology and have strong wet lab skills and good laboratory habits. Successful applicant will help to set up a wet lab focused on utilizing our existing DNA double-stranded break labeling techniques and further developing and refining them. This postdoctoral position in labeling and detecting DNA double-stranded breaks is available immediately at the Rowicka lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB). The Rowicka lab is interested in mechanisms of occurrence and repair of chromosome breaks, and in understanding how genomic instability and defects in DNA replication contribute to cancer. We have been developing and co-developing cutting edge methods for both computational analysis of DSB formation and their detection and analysis using sequencing (e.g. Zhu et al, Nature Communications 2019; Crosetto et al., Nature Methods 2013). We are interested both in elucidating fundamental questions in genome instability and in applying our methods to help guide therapy for cancer patients. Our lab participates in highly interdisciplinary and collaborative projects, the candidate will have opportunity to learn state-of-the-art bioinformatics methods, including machine learning.
